80/20. That’s what you hear, “losing weight and getting healthier is 80% what you eat, 20% working out”. I believe that this is relative. There are no magic percentages, there are no magic diets, there’s no magic pill. Working out should be a form of therapy, and putting in the effort to get healthier is individualized. Do what you need, in the moment.
Focusing on calories or macros or how many minutes you’re working out for can lead to the not successful loops- with bursts of motivation and long periods of laziness. At least that has been the case for me.

Whenever I make any gluten free treats or different healthy recipes my dad always responds by saying “moderation is key” and mumbling about actual brownies. I’ve come to find out that he is right, in a sense.
While gluten free treats aren’t the enemy, one regular gluten filled brownie isn’t going to completely derail you progress- unless you let it. A mindset of moderation and intuitive eating is something I am trying to master
I sit here thinking about the fact that after having one junky meal, I used to completely spiral into a binge eating episode, thinking to myself in the morning I would be better.
Those mornings came and I felt guilt and shame and figured I may as well just put off my “health kick” until the next week. But here’s the thing. One bad meal, or choosing to have two beers at dinner one time, is NOT throwing off my progress as much as completely spiraling after that bad meal or those two beers is throwing off my progress. How you react to a situation is how you grow.
Waking up guilty, throwing away everything junky and feeling shameful WAS NOT the path to success. The path to success is different for everybody, but I will say, it includes moderation.
Eating healthy does not have to be restrictive and miserable. Moderation and balance let you still enjoy your favorite snacks or indulgences. If you’re thinking that you can’t eat healthier, or you’ve tried a healthier lifestyle but you can’t lose any weight… you’re wrong. You can do anything.

You can do anything you put your mind to. You can get through those hard days, you can work out more for yourself. No one else is going to do it for you.
