New year, same stress. Unfortunately the pandemic we are in has set stress levels at an all time high for all of us. We are more isolated than before, and if you’re more introverted like me- you have more of an excuse to not go out and socialize. At the end of last year for me, the stress and anxieties were building up until they reached new levels. I had a decision to make: succumb to the anxiety and stay in my unhealthy habit loop- or follow my goals and become stronger- and try to help others push through as well. Thankfully, I decided to choose the later.
You know when you’re on an airplane and they’re talking about if the oxygen masks were to drop? They say help yourself SO that you can help others. Honestly I am very anxious regarding flying, so whenever the flight attendants stand in the aisle going through the safety protocols I black out.
Despite this, a key takeaway in every part of our lives is helping ourselves so that we may help others. Taking time for self care is not selfish, rather, it is important and necessary.
Self care isn’t something I regularly schedule into my week. Actually besides knowing my work days a month ahead of time, my schedule is very sporadic. The other night, I got home from work and I did a workout. While every single step I take on the treadmill challenges me as I’m not a “runner”, after my workouts I always feel accomplished and less stressed. The other night I topped it all off with a quick rinse off then a bubble bar from lush, hot tea, and a book. Self care looks different for everyone, find something that relaxes you and be sure to take time out of your day for yourself.
