Last night when I was working out I got a little emotional. I am jaded sometimes and I get annoyed by people being motivational, but last night I let myself feel proud and feel connected to what the instructor was saying.
I often speak of the vague “they”. Whoever they may be, they say it takes 30 days to make or break a habit. I just hit 20 days in a row of working out and I am PROUD. I am proud of my consistency, I am grateful for my support system, and I am looking forward to feeling just as accomplished when I hit 30 days.

-Theodore Roosevelt
Despite 20 days being a seemingly large feat- I felt proud after a simple three day streak- it’s important to feel proud in all your accomplishments no matter how big or small. It isn’t so much the length of the workout either. Often, if I was working a 12 hour shift, I could only fit in a 15 min low impact ride or a 10 minute core class. Moving just for even a few minutes positively impacted how I felt physically and mentally.

Many people only focus on the physical effects of fitness: weight loss, more energy, better sleep, etc. I think it is important to highlight the mental effects as well: less stress, the release of endorphins, and it also seemingly helps to treat depression and anxiety!! So many more wins than the physical aspect. I encourage you to try moving every day. I know how daunting this can feel. I know how when you’re in a dark funk you joke around about not working out, about eating junk food and laying on the couch and not caring. But I also know deep down the dark humor rings true and you have no intentions of actually changing your ways. I know because I was like that. So I ask you to please trust me. Once you get into a routine and feel physically and mentally the difference- you’ll want to keep going and keep achieving new goals. JUST START.
